Company History
1970
O.J. Mann Electric Services, Inc. is founded in 1970 by Oscar (O.J.) Mann as a Bridgeport based union electrical contractor servicing the Fairfield business community. Current owner’s Don Walesky and Tony Vaccaro where employees of Oscar, working up from their apprenticeships with the company to eventually managing large crews of electricians for commercial electrical work of some of the largest buildings in the area- the largest being Bridgeport Center (currently People’s Bank Corporate Headquarters), which took over three years to complete at a total cost of $18 million.
1990
Tony Vaccaro and Don Walesky assume ownership of the company from the retiring Oscar Mann, re-incorporating and moving to Cheshire. They retain the respected company name as Oscar instilled honesty and integrity with all his clientele, staff, and community. O.J. Mann becomes quickly becomes involved with much of Cheshire’s growth in the 90’s working on the Cheshire Police Department renovation, Elim Park’s major addition, and continuing work for Cheshire Public Works, Cheshire Parks and Recreation, and the annual Fall Festival held every year at Bartlem Park.
2007
O.J. Mann partners with Home Depot, becoming the first and sole Standby Generator Installer for all 27 stores throughout the State of Connecticut. In addition to commercial electrical work, O.J. Mann branches into a Standby Generator Service and Installation Division.
2011
Hurricane Irene is the largest and most devastating hurricane to hit Connecticut in decades, with much of the state losing power for over a week. During just October alone, over 4,000 phone calls where received by O.J. Mann inquiring about generators. With half a decade of work installing and maintaining generators, we are able to weather the storm and provide emergency coverage to homeowners in Connecticut based on years of commercial experience and generator servicing.
2012
Another damaging hurricane hits Connecticut- Hurricane Sandy. Standby generators have now become a household name to homeowners in Connecticut. Tony and Don expand the standby generator division by relocating to a 5,000 square foot warehouse and office space in a commercial office park off of Highland Avenue in Cheshire- capable of housing thousands of pieces of electrical equipment and dozens of standby generators.
2016
O.J. Mann Electric continues to grow as a Commercial Electrical Contractor and Authorized Standby Generator Dealer having installed and maintained nearly 2,000 generators throughout Connecticut. We install and maintain generators throughout the year with a dedicated team of electricians- while maintaining and growing our commercial division.
